Using The Pen Tool On Photoshop

Using The Pen Tool On Photoshop

Today I used drawings I had drawn into my sketchbooks on photoshop and then used the pen tool to draw over the segments of the drawing to eventually cover the entire drawing with the pen tool.

The first thing I did today was scan the drawings I had in my sketch book in the scanning machine so I could access them on the computer. When the drawings were scanned they were sent to my student email. I then accessed my email account, downloaded the files of the drawings, chose The drawings I was going to use and then opened the file containing the drawings I was going to use up into Photoshop.

After the file was opened into Photoshop It opened up as the background layer and I then made sure that the file was the right size and that it was at the right resolution.

After this I then changed the mode of the file to RBG colour.

After this I changed the opacity of the drawing to 45% so that the picture underneath was more visible. This was the final step in making sure the file war ready to be used.

Once the file was ready I then used the pen tool to create lines which I traced over a segment of the drawing , I created these lines one after the other to to create the accurate shape.

After A shape was created a layer would be created for that shape.

The first segment of the drawing I went over with the pen tool was the stem of the flower . I then went over the petals after.

After I went over the petals I then decided to change the shade of colour for some of the petals. I did this by double clicking on the icon on the layer of the shape I wanted to change the colour of and this window opened up.
However I wanted a more advanced setting to change the colour of the shape so I clicked on colour libraries and this window opened.

I decided to go with pantone 421 for a small selection of petals and I then chose pantone 422 for a     selection of other petals.

This is what the work looks like now I will be doing some more work to it.

  1. Great! Very clear working. The colour books are good to use when you want a specific colour if the intended work is to be printed. Well done, Steve
