Joel Lesson Animation Idea 2

Title of Idea : Cool Course

Plot Outline

The animation will have a linear storyline. The video will cover the story of a girl called Sarah who is visiting a THC open day for a media course with her friend, Ariel who is not that interested in a media course as her vocational course at college. The exposition would open up with a scene of the two girls entering the college with Sarah's facial expression being excited and Ariel's facial expression being bored and not looking too impressed. The girls would start their course and with in 1 hour Ariel would have liked the course, finding it interesting and become convinced that the media course at THC is the course she wants to do for college. The animation would end with a close up of Ariel and Sarah's student ID's implying that they are both new students to the college.

Synopsis/ Summary of Idea

The video would would use the frame by frame by frame animation technique. It would be 30-50 seconds long and would have each frame created on Photoshop. The frames would then be edited and sequenced together using the video editing software Final Cut.

Strengths

The frames would not take too long to animate as they would not require any recording like idea 1 and also because there would be less frames to create. The animation would also have a good duration and not be too long. Since there would not be as many frames to animate as idea 1 more editing to the frames could be done and more transitions could be inserted into the video using Final Cut.

Weaknesses

The animation may only attract a small audience as it may not be found interesting by some people. The video could look quite generic and not unique as it may look like many of the other videos created by other students, this would be because frame by frame animation is a very popular animation technique. The animation could also look quite boring because compared to idea 1 the frame by frame animation technique is not as detailed or interesting as rotoscoping, the popularity of the frame by frame animation technique alongside its simple looking design may create for animation that is not aesthetically appealing.

Evaluation

After discussing with my team mates and teacher we have come to the conclusion that we will not be using the animation for quite a few different reasons the first being that the video may look very boring as the animation itself could be an animation style that is not as detailed and aesthetically appealing as the rotoscoping animation technique in idea 1. Another reason as to why we chose not to use idea 2 is because the simple story may be found un interesting by some viewers. Their are some aspects we have chosen to use however and those would be the use of incorporating an open day into our animation, this would be because the idea of teenager interested in applying to a college course and visiting an open day is a story that can have quite a lot of content added to it story. This would make for an interesting story.
